People will not have to cope with multiple remotes as Peel Technologies has revamped its universal smart remote mobile app to make it easier for Indian customers to navigate between the world of live TV and streaming video.
Peel Smart Remote is one easy-to-navigate universal app and platform that turns user's smart phone into a universal remote that works with all major brands of TVs, air conditioners and 600 set-top boxes available in India.
The revamped app, that was made available to Indian customers on Thursday, will now offer access to popular streaming and discovery of what's currently airing live on a user's TV.
Peel Smart Remote app, which has 135 million registered users globally, addresses the growing complexity of the video entertainment landscape as the medium becomes richer and more populated.
"As more and more of our users diversify their entertainment consumption to include streamed content, it makes sense for us to simplify their journey to find something good to watch no matter what the source or destination is," Thiru Arunachalam, Peel CEO and co-founder, said.
Indian TV shows and movies on YouTube are the first content to be available on the revamped app while more streaming video providers would be added soon.
The streaming service will allow the Indian customers with access to 45 popular CatchUp TV series, movies and news channels in a variety of regional languages, including Hindi, Telugu and Tamil and the new features make recommendations based on users' past TV viewing behavior.
The improved interface also helps easier navigation between the channels and remote controls, such as power button, volume up/down and channel up/down.
The app, available for iPhone and Android users, is now coming preloaded on phones from several Indian distributors, including Karbonn, Xolo, Gionee, Panasonic and Celkon.
