Photos: Srinivas SettyThe Director of Handloom and Textiles, Shailaja Ramaiyer inaugurated the ‘Silk Fab’ exhibition at Kamma Sangham in Ameerpet on Sunday. The Exhibition includes about 60 State Government Agencies and Apex Bodies, Primary Handloom Weavers Co-operative Societies, the agencies working under the Integrated Handloom Development Scheme from across 14 states.

Silk products drawn from some of the exotic locations of India are on display and sale at the exhibition that includes Pochampally and Dharmavaram from Andhra Pradesh, Muga Silk from Assam, Tassar, Kantha and Madhubani Prints from Bihal, Tribal work and Kosa Silk from Chhattisgarh, Printed Silk Sarees from Delhi, Printed Silk Sarees and Dress Materials from Jammu and Kashmir, Kasuti Work from Karnataka, Chanderi and Maheshwari from Madhya Pradesh, Paithani from Maharashtra, Bomkai and Sambalpur from Orissa, Gadwal from Telangana, Banarasi verities from Uttar Pradesh and Baluchari, Kantha and Tangai from West Bengal.

Speaking on the occasion, Shailaja Ramaiyer said that the exhibition enables an interface between the weavers and consumers. All the exhibitors at the expo have been encouraged to display the Government launched scheme’s ‘Handloom Mark’ and ‘Silk Mark’ tag on the products and thus aim to improve the earnings of the handloom weaver community.

The exhibition has the participation of four weavers who are recipients of National Award for design. It is organised by the National Handloom Development Corporation and is open to public from 11 am to 8 pm for two weeks.
