Govt ropes in IIT, BITS for Mission Kakatiya

Hyderabad: The Telangana government roped in the prestigious IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) and BITS Pilani for preserving scientifically the water tanks under Mission Kakatiya programme by utilising the technical expertise of the two institutions in the city.

State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao held a review meeting on Sunday with all district officials engaged in the mission and enquired the status of works for the revival of the tanks taken up under phase one.
Taking into account the problems brought to his notice by engineers at the ground level in strengthening water bodies, the Minister said the two top technical institutions in the country would help the government address technical issues in reviving abandoned tanks. He instructed the officials to enter agreements with the managements of the institutions
immediately.
Harish instructed the officials to complete the works taken up under phase I by March 31 and prepare time schedule for phase – 2 before the tender process began. He asked to conduct soil tests before the works were taken up.
In view of scarcity of staff for the execution of Mission Kakaitya works, the Minister said the TSPSC (Public Service Commission) would issue notification in 15 days to fill engineers’ posts in the irrigation department.
