Re polling in 36 booths of GHMC Puranapul Division today

Hyderabad: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday ordered re-polling in 36 booths in Puranapul Division of The GHMC on Friday consequent to the clash between the Congress and MIM supporters on the polling day on February 2. The re-polling will be held between 7 am to 5 pm on Friday. The Division has an electorate of 36,413.

Both the re-poll and the counting of votes for all 150 divisions in the civic body limits would be held on Friday. The counting process will begin at 3 pm for 149 divisions and for Puranapul division it would be delayed by at least two hours.

The commissioner said that no TV channel or any individual can leak any information regarding the outcome of the elections till 5 pm. If any channel telecasts or if any one uses social media to circulate any information they get to know in regard to the results, action would be taken against them. Speaking to the media, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that the re-polling for 34,413 voters in all 36 centres in Puranapul division will be conducted from 7am to 5pm with about 220 election staff.

He added that the SEC has also directed the election officials not to ask for voter slips; instead they will provide a help desk at every polling station. The citizens can show 21 types of government authorised photo identity cards including, voter identity cards, Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license and others to the presiding officer in the respective polling stations to exercise their franchise, Janardhan Reddy said.

Janardhan Reddy stated that elaborate arrangements have been made for the counting of votes in the GHMC limits. He said that the GHMC has identified 99 counting halls in 24 counting centres as sensitive where security was beefed. The GHMC will deploy 5,626 staff and arrange 1674 tables for counting purpose, he added.

The GHMC Commissioner said that a counting supervisor, counting assistant and additional counting supervisor will foresee the counting at each table. The entire counting process will be held under supervision of election observers and would be videographed, he said. The postal ballot votes would be counted in the first half an hour of the polling, for which a separate table with a Returning Officer has been arranged, he added.

He said that the results for 26 wards will be declared two hours after the beginning of the counting process. The results for all 150 divisions were expected to be completed within 4 hours from the time counting starts, he added. Janardhan Reddy said the counting of votes will be done in 827 rounds.
