Hyderabad: After Rohith Vemula episode in the University of Hyderabad, now trouble is brewing in the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU). Taking out a rally demanding revocation of the disciplinary action against 11 students, the students’ union threatened to intensify the stir if the university failed to revoke the action on 11 students immediately.

The students’ union says the university took the disciplinary action on the students who demanded the varsity to hold students’ union elections in October 2015. A student on condition of anonymity said they had organized a series of peaceful rallies and cultural activities protesting against the muzzling of democratic rights. But the administration issued show-cause notices and followed it up by disciplinary action, he said.

“The administration took action against 11 students on November 5 accusing them of inciting violence on the campus and engaging in anti-university activities,” said a student. The students’ union lamented that the administration had cancelled hostel admission of eight students. The administration has also suspended fellowships of four PhD scholars, it said.

“The entry of three of the 11 students, one of them a girl of 19 years, have been restricted. They can be on the campus only between 9 am and 6 pm. The students’ union lamented that 11 students were not even summoned by the Proctorial Board that took action against them or furnished proof against them for the crimes they were accused off.

The students’ body said even after repeated requests for a review of the decision, the varsity did not move an inch. The students’ body said it has decided to sleep in the open from Thursday protesting against the denial of justice to them.`
