Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to bring in a new education policy from this academic year. Under the policy, all educational institutions, barring Medical, Agriculture and Pharma, will be brought under the purview of State Education department. This was decided at a budget preparation meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the “malfunctioning” of educational institutions under different departments. He wondered why the Minority educational institutions were run by Minority welfare Department and study circles and ITI education institutions by Scheduled Castes and Labour Departments.

KCR observed lack of coordination between various institutions run by other departments and the Education Department had led to decline in education standards. He wanted to bring all the educational institutions under a single roof and provide quality education including skill development to all.

The present education policy, he said, had failed to identify the requirement of doctors, engineers and other professional staff for the State, he said. The education system was also not up to the mark to make students competent to attend competitive examinations conducted by the Union government.

The existing system was not motivating the students to prepare for the competitive examinations conducted by State Public service and Union Public Service commission. As a result, students failed to get jobs in Banking, Railways and Defence sectors which have been issuing notifications to fill thousands of vacancies every year.

He instructed the Minister for Education Kadiyam Srihari to conduct a thorough study on the existing education policy and come up with an innovative and strong Education policy by giving skilled development a priority and ensure job opportunities to all after the completion of their studies.
