Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Friday warned private companies of stern action for failing to finalise revised estimates for pending projects and set February 20 as the deadline. The Minister held a review meeting on irrigation projects with officials in his chambers at the Secretariat. State advisor (Irrigation) R Vidyasagar Rao and Special Chief Secretary to Irrigation S K Joshi were present.

He enquired the status on implementation of GO 146, issued by Telangana State government, which allowed price escalation for existing contracting agencies. The objective of the order was to ensure supply of irrigation water to every acre by completing pending projects in a time bound manner, he said.

The Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in execution of works in some places. "Government will not spare laxity by contractors who failed to fulfill targets," he said and snubbed officials for the delay in taking up timely work.

To update the information on the projects, he asked the Irrigation officials to prepare “District Irrigation Progress Card” in every district. The progress card would give a detailed picture on the status of the execution of project works and the requirement of funds for the completion of projects in the new financial year begins April one.

Stating that he would hold a meeting with all irrigation officials on February 15 to ascertain budget requirements, Harish said the government had already decided to earmark Rs 25,000 crore for irrigation in the budget. The Minister directed officials to reduce non-plan expenditure in view of increased fund requirement for the project constructions from this year.
