Karimnagar: The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will purchase the cotton at the rate of Rs 4,160 per quintal from the farmers, if its market price is less than the minimum support price (MSP), District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said.

He made a surprise inspection of Jammikunta Agricultural Market here on Friday. He checked the surroundings and premises of cotton yard and the quality of the cotton brought in gunny bags by the farmers and weighing machines. He enquired the farmers about the price the market officials and traders paying to them.

The farmers complained to the Collector that the market officials and traders have formed a syndicate and cheating them by decreasing the price with various restrictions. “The price has been decreased to Rs 500 per quintal of cotton compared to last week,” the farmers informed the Collector.

After hearing all their problems, the Collector assured them that he will take necessary steps for doing justice to them along with keeping a check on those, who were trying to cheat them.

The Collector, Sarfaraz Ahmed, also inspected the works of four-lane road from Jammikunta to Huzurabad, which was in progress and suggested the officials to speed up the works with maintaining quality in the works.

He visited the SC and BC welfare hostels in Jammikunta and checked registers, classrooms and kitchen and also the toilets. He inquired the officials about children, who were absent and didn’t turn up after Dasara vacations.

The school headmaster was ordered to be strict in such cases and to take action immediately after consulting their parents.

Agricultural Market Committee Chairman Ramesh, vice-chaiman Rajeshwar Rao, Tahsildar Mahendar, Revenue Inspector Mohan Reddy and Gunny Bags Association president Ashok were present along with others.
