The two-day ‘South India Regional Cultural Meet and Art Exhibition – 2016’ being organised by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) Hyderabad region has got underway here on Monday.

Warangal Urban: The two-day ‘South India Regional Cultural Meet and Art Exhibition – 2016’ being organised by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) Hyderabad region has got underway here on Monday.

The event was being at Kakatiya University auditorium in Warangal. About 400 students from 20 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) from south Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were taking part in cultural events that representing the dance and art forms of their respective places.

Events were being conducted in performing arts, theatre, visual art, seminar, creative writing and youth choir, where the talent of the participating students was showcased.

An Art Exhibition with art pieces students of all the 76 JNVs of south India is being conducted.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, GWMC Mayor N Narender appreciated the students for presenting the old age dance forms of various cultures.

JNVs have proved their potential of producing quality students who excel in academics and extra-curricular activities.

Warangal MP P Dayakar too expressed similar views. On the first day, the Kakatiya dance form ‘Perini Nruthyam’ was presented by the students of JNV Warangal.

Kerala Nadanam, Bhoopathappalu Nrithyam Bonalu, Yaksha Gaana and Doddata were performed by the students on the day.

On Tuesday harvest dance, Kolatam, Lambadi dance, Chakkabhanaja and Pinnal Thiruvathira he will perform along with youth choir.

“It is a privilege for us to conduct South India Regional Cultural Meet and Art Exhibition – 2016’ in Warangal. The JNVs will continue their efforts to produce students who could build a vibrant society,” JNV Warangal principal P Satyanarayana said.

VIPs skip inaugural ceremony
Though the event was conducted for the first time in Warangal in a prestigious manner, many of the VIPs have skipped the inaugural ceremony. Deputy CM K Srihari, MLAs D Vinay Bhasker, A Ramesh and Warangal Urban DistrictCollector K Amrapali, who were invited to attend the ceremony, failed to turn up.

The organisers had to wait till 4 pm for the Mayor and the MP to arrive though the event was scheduled to be kicked off at 3 pm. Many of the students and teachers attending the event have expressed their displeasure at the absence of VIPs at such important event.

However, the officials have informed that the Deputy Chief Minister was expected to attend the valedictory.
