As a part of the weekly cultural programs at Shilparamam in association with ICCR, Bhagmati Music Academy under the aegis of Guru Usha presented a Carnatic music programme along with her students on Sunday followed by enthralling kathak performace by Mythili Anoop.

The Vocalist was Uma Maheshwar Rao accompanied by Guru Anju Babu on the Tabla and Shruti on the Sitar.

She started with a Shloka on Saraswathi, followed by Kathak Nritth including Chakkardaar tukde, gat bhaav, tatkaar- in Raagamalika and Tritaal.

This was followed by “Pragati Braj Nandlal” composed by Binda Din Maharaj in Raag Desi and Tritaal.

This bhajan describes the young Krishna, who is the beloved son of Yashoda, the beautiful child with locks of hair that resemble the honey bees that hover over a flower or as the shadow that eclipses his moon-like face.

Lord Krishna, who as a toddler crawls on his knees, totters and falls, when those same limbs grow up to hold the bow and arrow.

The slayer of the evil Kamsa, may the lord forever, uplift the world. Mythili beautifully rendered this piece.

Next was a Thumri- a Legendary song composed by Begum Akhtar and in the rendering of Iqbal Bano – “Ab ke saawan ghar aaja”- the heroine entreats the beautiful season of the monsoon rains to visit her home.

Her lover is away in a foreign land. She entreats the beautiful bird to carry her message across to him in her golden beak, or written by her on its wing.

The Dancer's delicate gestures expressed the bitter-sweet mood.Taraana in Raag Bhairavi and Teentaal concluded the recital. The Music was composed by Mallesh Rao.

The day before, it was a Kuchipudi and Simhanandini by Sukriti and Sahithi, students of Guru Vani Ramana.

The intricate dance of Simhanandini where the dancer creates a figure of a lion on a white cloth while she dances stole the show during the evening.

They also presented a rare Kuchipudi dance drama ‘Nauka Charitra’ – written by Tyagaraya this piece is about the proud Gopikas who create problems as they consider Krishna their own and how their ego is busted.

Today ICCR in association with Shilparamam is presenting a performance by ‘Flag Wavers and Musicians’ group from Italy.
