Warangal Urban: Warangal Roman Catholic Diocese is organising grand celebrations here on November 12 commemorating the sainthood of Mother Theresa and closing of ‘The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy’.

The devotees from Karimnagar, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Jayashanker Bhupalpalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Siddipet, Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts, which fall under the diocese would commence ‘Divine Mercy Padayatra’ on November 10 from their respective parishes.

The padayatras from above places will reach Warangal on November 12 and converge at Public Gardens in Hanamkonda at around 10 am. Following which, all the devotees will take up a massive colourful procession from Public Gardens to Fatima Cathedral in Kazipet.

It would be followed by a prayer service at the Cathedral, informed the diocese Bishop Udumala Bala. Accompanied by fathers K Vijaya Kumar, Jerome, Vinod and Kishore, he addressed a press conference in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Srihari, ZP Chairperson G Padma, Lok Sabha Member V Lakshmikantha Rao, Warangal MP P Dayakar, GWMC Mayor N Narender, MLAs D Vinay Bhasker and K Surekha, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, Warangal Urban District Collector K Amrapali and in-charge Municipal Commissioner Shahid Masood will attend the prayers.

Similarly, Bishop Daniel Kalyanapu, Hazrat Sayed Shah Afzal Biabani Dargah Sajjada Nasheen (pontiff) Kushroo Pasha and Brahmana Samakhya leader Dr. V Vishwanatha Rao and others are also invited to attend programme.

Bishop Bala said Mother Theresa hailing from Albania has settled down in India, where she did social work serving the poor and needy. Bestowing of Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and Bharat Ratna in 1980 on her testifies her commitment to humankind.

“In India Mother Theresa has been called as living saint during her lifetime and now with the sainthood she became a saint for the world. Celebrating her sainthood along with the Divine Mercy Jubilee is really a great occasion for the devotees,” he added.

It may be noted that Pope Francis has called for celebration of Divine Mercy Jubilee to encourage the faithful to know the face of God's mercy, Jesus Christ Incarnate, and to show that face of mercy to the world through our words and actions. The year of Divine Mercy has begun on Dec 8, 2015 and closes on November 20, 2016.
