Hanamkonda: With an objective to deliberate on the impact of reforms on Indian economy, Kakatiya University is organising a two-day international seminar on the topic ‘25 years of economic reforms in India’.

The seminar, organised under the aegis of economics department, will be held on January 28 and 29, Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna informed the presspersons here on Tuesday. Efforts are being made to streamline academic functioning and revive the past glory of KU.

As part of such efforts, every department in the varsity is asked to conduct an international seminar on an appropriate topic. The seminar on economic reforms will assist the department to find a place among global academic circles and help students to improve their standards in terms of academic research, he said.

Giving details of ongoing developmental activities, the V-C said stress is being laid on regularising academic calendar by conducting examinations as per schedule. This choice-based credit system has been introduced to ensure quality of education and semester wise assessment the students at graduation level.

The university administration is gearing up for the third cycle of NAAC accreditation. Seven committees have been set up to prepare reports on university activities for the consideration of visiting NAAC team.

A self-study report is being prepared and soon will be posted on the university website. After which the NAAC inspection team will be invited. ‘This time we are hoping to receive A++ grade from the NAAC,’ Prof Sayanna noted.

The administration has started working to conduct convocation, he added. Replying to a query on ongoing protests by part-time lecturers, the V-C said the demand of upgrading part-time lecturers into contract lecturers is not his domain.

It is a policy matter and the State government has to take the decision to address it. The seminar director and economic department head B Suresh Lal informed that nearly 400 research papers by national and international scholars have been submitted for the seminar. Experts from UK, the US, Australia, Vietnam and Nepal will deliver lectures.

CESS, Hyderabad Chairman Prof R Radha Krishna and Prof Biswajit Dhar, JNU, New Delhi will attend the inaugural ceremony. The valedictory will be attended by assembly speaker S Madhusudhana Chary, TS-Genco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao, he added.
