Devotees collect Godavari water for Nagoba Jathara

Utnoor: The Mesram community persons of Keslapur village in Indervelli mandal who left on January 10 and collected the holy Godavari water a week later on Tuesday reached the Indradevi temple in the mandal. As per traditions, they performed special puja.

They later walked to Keslapur, where the Nagoba temple is located, holding the water form River Godavari. They stayed under a Banyan tree on Monday night and also performed special puja at the spot.

These devotees stayed under the tree for two days. The Nagoba Jatara begins on January 27 with a maha puja to Nagoba who is treated as god by the tribals belonging to the Mesram community.

The Jatara is recognised by the TRS government as a festival and Rs.4 crore has been sanctioned for taking up various works during the week-long festivities. Devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Odisha, besides Telangana, are to attend the jatara. Officials are supervising the various works.

An amount of Rs.4 lakh is being spent for building a tank near the traditional well the water of which is used by the community for preparing ‘naivedyam’ to be offered to Nagoba.

Staff of the RWS department are constructing additional bathrooms/latrines, besides a tank for providing water supply to devotees coming from far off places. The TSRTC is getting ready to ply buses for use by residents of Keslapur and nearby villages

Mancherial Collector R V Karnan, who is also the in-charge ITDA project officer, is regularly visiting Keslapur to supervise the various works being taken by the district administration.
