Inaugurating the Digi Dhan mela at the Sri Ram Gardens in the city on Thursday, where he was the chief guest, he said that there could be all-round development and improvement in the infrastructure facilities only if all the people pay taxes honestly without fail. National highways could be constructed and new railway lines could be laid only if more taxes were mobilised from the public, he added.

He said that the Union government has decided to setup 100 smart cites in the country and for this all the people should pay taxes but only 24 lakh people were paying taxes in the entire country now. He bemoaned that there was 24 per cent of shadow or parallel economy running in the country. He lauded the efforts of District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana for making excellent arrangements for organising the Digi-dhan mela.

The Union Minister also went around the different malls set up at the Digi Dhan mela. There are already 70 cashless or villages which went for digital transactions. He gave away the Best Sarpanch Award. He explained to the people regarding the methods of carrying our digital transactions to the farmers and villagers. They were also taught how to make online payments at various stalls set-up.

For those not having saving bank accounts, a rupay card was given to make payments. A large number of farmers turned up at the Digi Dhan mela to learn about the methods of cashless transactions.

Nizamabad Mayor Akula Sujatha, District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana and a host of district officials were present on the occasion.
