Warangal: Ever heard of wedding of Lord Hanuman, who sworn to remain a 'naishtika brahmachari' (strict bachelor)? Here we have a more than 100-year-old Bhaktanjaneya Swamy temple at Mallakkapet village that has been famous for conducting Lord’s celestial wedding.
It has been a practice for the last few years that this temple, 4 kms from Parkal in Warangal Rural district, is performing Lord Hanuman’s celestial wedding on chitra suddha pournami.
Albeit this temple exists for over a century, it came to prominence in 1950s when the priest Katuri Raghavacharyulu took over the responsibility of running it. Since 1988, Jagannathacharyulu has been looking after the temple.
The growing number of Hanuman deeksha devotees in the region of late has also pushed the temple into the limelight.
However, there was no conclusive evidence whether Lord Anjaneya Swamy got married or not, the folklore and mythological stories suggest some interesting versions. According to a legend, Lord Hanuman was married to the daughter of Surya Bhagawan (Sun God).
Although, he mastered all the Vedas, he needed to be a married person to learn some of the Dharmas. He then got married to Devi Suvarchala at the behest of her father Surya as no one could withstand her radiance. Despite this, it’s said that Hanuman maintained celibacy all his life. This was mentioned in the Parasara Samhita, written by Maharshi Parasara.
This apart, Mallakkapet temple is the second temple in undivided Andhra Pradesh to perform 1008 Kundatmaka Maha Yagam in 2000. Before this, Tirupati hosted the first such yagam. Besides a steady flow of pilgrims, the temple is also famous for devotees who take the oath of Hanuman deeksha.
Talking to The Hans India, priest Jagannathacharyulu said: “Mallakkapet is the only temple in Telangana where Anjaneya Swamy’s celestial wedding with Devi Suvarchala is performed.”
Vadikari Rajamouli of Mallakkapet said: “The celestial wedding of Anjaneya Swamy is for the wellbeing of people and thousands of people from all corners of the region converge on to the temple to witness the ritual.”
Meanwhile, arrangements were in place for the rituals commemorating the birth (jayanti) of Lord Hanuman and his wedding on Tuesday.
