Mahabubabad: By administering the deworming medicines to children below 19 years of age, make the district free from worms, said District Revenue Officer Dr. P Rambabu here in Mahabubabad on Tuesday.

Presiding over a meeting of the District Coordination and Task Force Committees at Collectorate here on Tuesday, Dr Rambabu said that everybody must take certain precautionary measures to protect themselves from harmful and infectious disease causing germs. Then, they could lead a healthy normal life, he added.

The DRO said on the occasion of National Deworming Day on August 10, the State government was supplying deworming medicines free of cost to all the children below 19 years of age studying in nearly 1,164 government schools and colleges in the district and 1,393 Anganwadi centres.

Half a dose of deworming tablet must be given to children between one to six years of age and one tablet to the children in between 6 to 19 years of age, the DRO added.

He said that necessary steps must be taken by the departments concerned to organise awareness programmes to people explaining them about the health hazards that they may face due to worms and lack of personal hygiene. People should be made aware of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and use of toilets, the DRO said.

The officials of the Education and Health Departments along with Integrated Child Development Society must work like soldiers with the cooperation of ANMs, ASHA and anganwadi workers to administer the deworming medicines to all the children of below the age of 19 years.

District Medical and Health Officer Sri Ram, District Educational Officer V Nageshwar Rao, Scheduled Castes Development Officer Raju, Deputy DM&HO Rama Rao, Child Protection Officers and NDD Coordinator Srikanth and others were present.
