With the aim of empowering women in all respects, the Union government has sanctioned Purna Shakti Kendra (PSK) in Nalgonda district in 2016-17. Under the scheme, it was planned to implement Tribal welfare schemes in Devarakonda mandal of the district.

Nalgonda: With the aim of empowering women in all respects, the Union government has sanctioned Purna Shakti Kendra (PSK) in Nalgonda district in 2016-17. Under the scheme, it was planned to implement Tribal welfare schemes in Devarakonda mandal of the district.
Earlier, the mandal was notorious for killing of newborn female babies and also selling them. Besides, the area was noted for illiteracy and atrocities against women and for superstitions. The Centre has selected Devarakonda for the implementation of PSK as pilot project.
The main objective of PSK is to create an environment to address the issues pertaining to gender discrimination apart from addressing the issues of identified girl children and women in selected villages of Devarakonda mandal. It was planned to solve issues related to child marriages, sale of girl child, trafficking, child labour, anemia and violence against women.
It was also planned better utilisation of Government schemes and programmes for women and girls; to create legal awareness among the women and families about their rights. The project area covers the Turupupalli, Padamatapalli, Mudigonda, Kondabheemanapalli, Thatikol, Madmadka, Gottimukkala, Sheripalli, Kommepalli and Mainampalli of Devarakonda constituency, officials said.
Convergence-cum-facilitation centres would be established in all Gram Panchayats in rented buildings supported by the village coordinators of 10 villages for implementation of activities under PSK model project, officials added.
The convergence activities will be implemented in coordination with the Department of Education, Health and Family welfare, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Women Development and Child Welfare, Labour and Employment, Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu and Non-Government Organisations.
District Officer of Integrated Child Development Authority (ICDS) Pushapalatha informed that, activities proposed for implementing the pilot project were baseline survey, setting up of district, mandal and village resource centres, awareness campaign, focused group discussions and target specific training programmes, vocational training programmes, reviewing and strengthening the status of marriage registration in the selected Gram panchyats, reviewing and strengthening the status of implementation of supplementation programmes for adolescent girls, strengthening of community vigilant groups, legal literacy, promoting access to government services and schemes.
All these schemes, along with Mana Inti Laxmi special programme in for eradication of sale of girl child will be synchronised with PSK.
She further informed that all arrangements are underway to launch the women empowering PSK programme in the selected ten villages of Devarakonda within two months.
