A sporting event exclusive to dialysis patients, Indian Dialysis Olympiad, was conducted by NephroPlus, a dialysis service provider network, at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium on Sunday. The event witnessed around 500 dialysis patients from across the country participating in the event.

Kamal D Shah, co-founder and director, patient services, NephroPlus, said, “We believe that dialysis patients can exercise, work and have fun like other healthy people do. The response to the event was amazing.”

“The event has not only provided a platform for us to exhibit our sporting skills but has also changed our perspective towards dialysis as well as life,” said Srinivas Rao, a participant.

The event had a good mix of track and field games, providing dialysis patients an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent.

The Olympiad was followed by ‘Aashayein’, a motivational and entertainment programme for dialysis patients. It had educational talks by nephrologists and a diet quiz. The highlight of the event was patients sharing their experiences with each other and learning how to cope with the disease.
