Here are some first aid tips for heat stroke:

  • Instantly move the person out of direct sunlight, into a cool shady area.

  • Take off the outer layer of clothing.

  • Pour cool water on the victim and keep fanning to lower the temperature.

  • Apply ice packs on the victim’s body parts where large blood vessels lie close to the skin surface – neck, groin and armpits.

  • Keep checking the temperature and try to bring it down by wrapping wet sheets around the body.

  • Begin rescue breathing if a child stops breathing.

  • Give fluids to keep the victim hydrated.

  • Begin CPR if the person shows no signs of breathing and loses consciousness.

Best way to escape these heat strokes is to drink plenty of fluids, apply sunscreen, wear loose and light colored clothing and stay in shade or cool areas.
