In a quick action by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the public body prevented encroachment of a piece of land at the bank of Hussain Sagar Lake on Tuesday.
According to Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL), the invading group supported by the Labour Minister Danam Nagender, resorted to such acts, several times earlier and tried to occupy the land around Gangamma temple by constructing structures despite several warnings from the public bodies.
“At around 9 am, a group of people tried to make a platform around the Gangamma temple at the lake bed near NTR Marg, after making some demarcations. However, our staff (HMDA) along with the local police prevented them from doing so,” said Rajendra Prasad Khajuria, Member Environment, HMDA. Presently, HMDA has stationed its home guard at the spot for security, as they fear the group might come back again in large numbers and carry out work in the wee hours.
