Threading the city’s spirit. A proud Hyderabadi (or Cyberabadi) religiously sips Irani chai along with Osmania biscuits and gorges on Biryani. A proud Hyderabadi (or Cyberabadi) religiously sips Irani chai along with Osmania biscuits and gorges on Biryani. If that’s what you are accustomed to, why not flaunt it on your tees? That was the idea by behind establishing folktales.in, a website which sells t-shirts and tangles, run single-handedly by 23-year-old Raviteja Govindaraju

Raviteja who hails originally from Nellore, graduated last year from IIT Madras. Though he worked as a designer in Chennai, he always had a goal to establish a firm which would serve products as a sovereign for tourists. That’s how folktales.in was established. The site sells variety of tees, which has the flavour of Hyderabad, be it the lingo or the local food, as its central theme. There are also tangles, which resembles any credit card and helps in your earphones from getting tangled. It’s designs feature Batman, Joker and the Tank Bund. “The idea of establishing folktales.in was there for a very long time. But it didn’t materialise due to lack of time.” For Ravi, the recently concluded Comic Con Express came as a blessing in disguise.
“I invested my personal money into the website. I was looking for a good start and that’s when Comic Con came along. I wanted to test the waters and the Comic Con Express was a good platform. I booked a stall a month in advance but didn’t have anything ready by then. Fortunately, I was a designer and it didn’t take a lot of time to design t-shirts. I showed the design to friends, talked to vendors and the printer took two weeks to print 400 t-shirts,” said Ravi. Comic Con proved to be a lucky charm for him. “There was a huge crowd. I sold about 80-90 tees and 70 tangles at the event. The response was good and I got a positive feedback”, he exclaimed. With success at the doorstep, Ravi plans to go full hog to promote his website. “I have just established the firm. I am planning to establish e-commerce on my website and am also involved in promoting it. Am also simultaneously, delivering the t-shirts. Currently am targetting the crowd at Hyderabad. Once it stablises, I want to expand my business to other cities.”
