Advanced CT technology introduced in city

Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) introduced a complete multi-dimensional surgical imaging o-arm system for the first time in South India.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr B Bhaskar Rao, managing director and CEO of KIMS said, “After All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, this advanced CT technology is available in KIMS only.”
“It is one of the most advanced imaging devices available for use in spinal, orthopedic and trauma surgeries. The cost of this machine is Rs three-and-a-half crore,” said Dr Bhaskar Rao.
“It is multi-dimensional, which helps to perform the surgery procedures more easily,” he added.
“Surgeons are able to perform well with less invasive procedures and keep the surgical area clean. It reduces the stress of surgeons and helps for faster recovery, early discharge of patient from hospital and minimise the blood loss also,” said Dr Tokumi Kanemura, an expert in anatomy and orthopedic surgery, Japan.
“The O-Arm delivers a 360 degree scan and 3D images with great resolution within 30 seconds duration,” he added.
“It is an image-guided surgery. It provides intra-operative imaging of a patient’s anatomy with high quality images. It supports identification of accurate surgery spots. Radiation risk is also very low. Superior image viewing can be helpful for seeing any part of the patient’s skeletal anatomy from head to toe.
As this multi- dimensional system is user-friendly, it can be handled by senior surgeons as well as young professionals very easily. The cost to undergo this advanced CT scan multidimensional ranges from Rs 15,000 to 20,000”, said Dr Manas Kumar Panigrahi, senior consultant neurosurgeon, KIMS Hospital.
