21 bldgs demolished

After receiving multiple complaints from the residents of Rajendranagar about the growing numbers of illegal commercial complexes and plastic industries, the GHMC officials razed the complexes to the ground on Saturday.

Rajendranagar plays home to many small-scale and medium-scale plastic industries, but these industries are located near residential areas. On Saturday, the GHMC officials took these industries to task. Apart from plastic industries there are textile and miscellaneous industries, which flourish in this area.

For the residents in the area, these industries aren’t just a cause of pollution they also render sleepless nights to the residents with respect to the noise that the industries shell out.

Additionally it is against the law for a company to set up a production unit or industry in a residential area. Shankar, assistant city planner, said, “We had received many complaints about the industries during the Prajavani meetings and in writing also. So we had decided to raze these buildings to the ground.

The buildings that were demolished were both commercial buildings and industrial buildings. They do not have permission to function in a residential area. Overall 21 buildings were razed in total, all standing in private property.” According to the officials, this move will serve as a warning to other such industries which flourish in residential areas.
