Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) jointly collaborated with Russia for fifth generation fighter aircraft concept, Padmabhushan Dr VK Saraswat stated. He participated as a chief guest in a National Seminar on ‘Modern Aircraft Systems’, hosted by GITAM University in association with Aeronautical Society of India Hyderabad Chapter on Monday.

He raised his concerns regarding the challenges that aerospace domain is facing in terms of pollution, energy conservation and cost involved. He suggested the solutions stating the importance of usage of renewable energy sources such as solar and lithium polymer batteries.

Dr Saraswat emphasised about the present and future facet of aerospace domain in India. In this connection he mentioned the testing of Kaveri engine in Russian aircraft which was successful for 55 flying hours. He further explained the present situation of LCA aircraft mentioning it to be in flight test modules. He elucidated the road map of Indian aeronautical domain for high end capabilities and technologies to be developed by the end of 2030.

In this connection, he made it a point about the sophisticated technologies like stealth mode, advanced avionics and propulsion system, Materials (Shape memory alloys, Nano materials and composite materials) should be developed. He reminded that DRDO was successful in manufacturing eight aircrafts so far with indigenous technology.
Dr Saraswat advised faculty and students to take up research activities that are consistent with the aerospace Indian industries in order to maintain quality education.
Present among others were Prof D Harinarayana, Pro Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University, Vijay Kumar, Honorary Secretary of AeSI Hyderabad Chapter, Director Dr. Ch. Sanjay and Head of the Aeronautical Engineering Department, Prof NV Swamy Naidu and other dignitaries from different premier institutes and R & D centers.
Pro Vice Chancellor briefed about the university mentioning its abilities in offering different programmes covering diverse areas of engineering, science, pharmacy and law with the student strength of 34,000 (Regular and distance) across three different campuses at Vizag, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
