The city of Bhagyanagar, viz today’s Hyderabad, was named after Goddess Bhagyalakshmi—a fact which has been established by famous social historians like Suravaram Pratapa Reddy and Biruduraju Rama Raju. The Bhagyalakshmi temple is located adjacent to Charminar. It has always been a practice to decorate the temple during important festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Dasara and Diwali. During the fortnight preceding Diwali, diyas are lit and women in large numbers come to the temple. This has been the practice for many years. This year also, grand preparations have been put in place. The shrine underwent renovation works recently and it now sports a grand look. A gorgeous pandal has been erected which stands at 30–40 feet.

The entire pandal has been barricaded for security reasons. Pujas are being performed everyday on the occasion of Diwali amidst a sea of devotees. On Tuesday and Wednesday, special rituals for Danteras and Choti Diwali were performed respectively. Today, Shubh Diwali would be observed. 7 pm is an auspicious time at the temple where the ‘Badi Diwali Khazana’ would be conducted. There are also reports that Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji would be visiting the temple today and would seek the blessings of the Goddess at around 5 pm.
