UGC accords permissions to PSUs to use NET scores for recruitment

Hyderabad: In what could be a boon for the National Eligibility Test (NET) aspirants and qualified candidates, the test score will now be considered for Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) jobs.

The examination which was so far conducted for awarding research fellowships and for appointment of assistant professors in universities and other higher educational institutions will now be a gateway for lucrative jobs in PSUs.

The University Grants Commission which oversees the examination has granted permission to PSUs to consider the test scores for recruitment of officers.

However, the NET qualified candidate should hold a master’s degree. Confirming the news, Prof. B Rajeswara Reddy, regional coordinator, UGC NET, said, “Now all PSUs can utilise the score for recruitment to organisations.

This would be applicable to all the NET qualified candidates.” Jobs in science management, human resources, finance, corporate communications are some of the opportunities which would be up for grabs for NET qualified candidates in PSUs.

Experts note that with this move, the number of candidates appearing from the next test will increase tremendously across the country.

Reddy said that the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has already been given permission by the UGC to use the NET score for recruitments. Sources added that IOCL has issued a notification inviting applications from candidates who have cleared the NET.

However the selection of candidates depends on the score they obtained in the examination. It may be noted that PSUs have been recruiting GATE score holders and CLAT score holders for the post of officers for the past three years, which resulted in increase of applicants for GATE.

After IOCL, several PSUs like BHEL, NTPC, BPCL, ONGC, HPCL, started considering the GATE score
