Hyderabad: Indian students bagged six gold medals in the international science championship held at Mendoza, Argentina. The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is a competition among brightest young students of various countries across the world in the natural sciences.

Kushagra Juneja The Indian team comprising of six science enthusiasts together took home six gold medals across categories at the Olympiad, with the top two ranks too grabbed by the Indians. All the six emerged winners in their respective categories, while two of them were declared world number one and two.

The competition was led by Kushagra Juneja of Delhi. A student of India’s most trusted engineering entrance training institute FIITJEE, Juneja emerged as the overall world topper at the Olympiad. He was followed at number two by Irin Ghosh from Durgapur, West Bengal – the only girl among the team of 6 Indians.

“Not only did FIITJEE students pocket the top two positions at the competition, they also took home almost 67 per cent of the Gold Medal share of the Indian team, which emerged as the World Topper Country. Four of the six Indians representing the country as a team at the Olympiads were trained by FIITJEE”, claims FITJEE in press release.

Apart from Juneja and Ghosh, other students on the Indian team were G Pradeep, Deaditya Pramanik, Sai Teja Talluri & Yash Jain. While G Pradeep is a student of FIITJEE Chennai, Pramanik is a student of FIITJEE Kolkata. Talluri and Jain are from Hyderabad and Bangalore respectively.

“There are some doomsdays analysts who would make us believe that the future of science and technology is bleak in India and that we lack the drive to innovate. The resounding achievement of our students is an indication that this is not the case. We have some of the world’s brightest minds, and if we groom them well and provide them a viable environment, they can work wonders. International Junior Science Olympiad is one of the most prestigious competitions at this level, and the world’s best young minds compete in it.

It is a matter of extreme pride for FIITJEE that we were able to nurture a talent that has made India proud at the global stage,” said R L Trikha, Director, FIITJEE. “This is the first time Indian students have so dramatically dominated the international competition. We believe we have a huge resource of brain and talent which needs special grooming in Science and Mathematics, so that we do not just produce engineers but also produce world class scientists. At FIITJEE we will strive to repeat the feat again next year,” added Trikha.
