The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU), along with the Secunderabad Division Loco Pilots and Running Staff, staged a protest at the Secunderabad Railway Station demanding the immediate filing up of 135 vacancies on Wednesday. K Shivakumar, divisional secretary, SCRMU, said, “Due to the staff-crunch, the management is forcing the existing staff to take up extra duties and is taking disciplinary action should they not report for duty.

The loco pilots and the running staff are forced to work overtime. They are not allowed to take a leave. Only one day leave is sanctioned when a worker calls in sick and in case of weddings.” “Loco pilots were removed after the implementation of the Signal Passing At Danger (SPAD). Cots and food are not provided for the staff at night at Vijayawada, Balharshah and Chiittapur,” he added. He cautioned the railway management that the protests would intensify in the case that their demands were not met.
