The opening day of the exhibition, which is all about promoting indigenous craftsmen, showcased products based on the climatic regions of the country. Sunday morning was a charming fest for city’s fashionistas. Member of Parliament, K Kavitha inaugurated a ‘riot of colours and creativity’, the two-day ‘Sangam’ exhibition at N Convention.

The exhibition is organised by Rajini Yarlagadda along with Cyber City Builders and Developers. As a part of this, weavers of Pochampally, Jamdani, Banaras and Ikat and printers from Banaras and Mumbai are exhibiting their works on a common stage. During the exhibition, craftsman from various States will be felicitated.

‘Sangam - The Weaving Journey’ showcased the rich and diverse culture of India, which nurtures different styles of textiles and fabric. “Congratulations, Rajini Yarlagadda for launching such a great exhibition in Hyderabad,” said Kavitha after the inauguration. “Rajini has introduced fabrics of India here in Hyderabad today. Upto five per cent of Indian GDP (Gross Domestic Product) comes from handlooms and textiles.

The government has to give importance for the Handloom Industries. We should take Mahatma Gandhi as an inspiration for usage of these products,” she said. “Sangam is my humble initiative to show the gratitude for weavers,” said the organiser. “It is also in support of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ campaign.

There is a vast scope for Indian fabric, which can fit any type of fashion. Today we presented products based on the climatic conditions of each region, thus making them completely viable in terms of comfort. Craftsmanship is losing its sheen in the competitive world due to the sheer lack of exposure to the new generation.

We are striving hard to get the charm back for craftsmanship,” said Rajini. Celebrities including DK Aruna, Daggubati Purandeswari, Naga Suseela, Pinky Reddy, Shilpa Reddy, Uma Reddy were among those who participated in the exhibition and shared their views.
