Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in collaboration with Department of Tourism and Culture, Government of Telangana organised a three-day ‘National Dance Festival-2017’ at Ravindra Bharathi recently.

The second day of the festivity commenced with Perini dance. This is an ancient dance form of Telangana and is rendered by males. Usually, Perini is performed before the soldiers get ready for war.

Hailing from Siddipet, Santhosh along with his group mesmerised the audience with their performance. The perfect coordination of the group also left the audience spellbound.

Following the Perini, Yamini Reddy, Indian classical dancer performed, Kuchipudi. She began her performance with “Vinayaka Kauthuvam”. She was accompanied by Ravikanth (Vocal), Siva Krishna (Mridangam) and Swaroop (Violin).

After the “Vinayaka Kauthuvam”, Yamini rendered a Padavarnam of “Samini Rammanavey Sarasakshiro”, written by Tiruvettiyur Tyagayya. Earlier, Kuchipudi dancers used to perform Padavarnams, as interludes between the Kuchipudi Yakshagana plays.

The Padavarnam “Samini Rammanavey Sarasakshiro” is about a sakhi, who wants to convey her message to Lord Shiva with a humble request. Yamini enthralled the audience with her dancing skills.

Priti Patel and Anjika from Kolkata performed Manipuri dance. The duo rendered ‘Ananthashakti’, a combination of Tantric, destruction of negativity and preservation. The 30-minute dance showcased the importance of tantric, destruction of negativity and preservation.

Later, they performed “Rasa Lila”, the dance of Krishna and Radha. The day-2 of the festival ended with Kathak rendition by Raghav Raj Bhatt and Mangala Bhatt.
