The department of Urology, Maxcure Hospitals organized an ‘Awareness Walk’ to commemorate Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The walk was held at KBR Park in Jubilee Hills and was flagged off by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.

The department of Urology, Maxcure Hospitals organized an ‘Awareness Walk’ to commemorate Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The walk was held at KBR Park in Jubilee Hills and was flagged off by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.

The event was supported by Hyderabad Urology, Hyderabad Bicycling Club, GHMC and Hyderabad Traffic Police. Hundreds of enthusiastic walkers from several walks of life attended and extended their support to the cause.

The mayor commended the efforts of Maxcure Hospitals for consistently driving the message and personally vowed to be a part of fight against prostate cancer. “Cancer in several of its forms not only threatens the life, but also harms our confidence and courage levels. The incidence of Prostate among men has been rising and I thank the healthcare fraternity for holding awareness activities and driving the message of early detection and possible prevention. I thank everyone who has joined the mission early in the morning,” he said.

Dr Anil Krishna, Managing Director, MaxCure Hospitals said, “During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, our goal is to help raise awareness not only with the public about the disease, but also help men who are living with the disease engage in a dialogue with their own doctors about any symptoms they experience that may be related to their prostate cancer.”

Explaining prostate cancer, its causes and challenges in treatment, Dr AV. Ravi Kumar, HOD of Urology Department, MaxCure Group of Hospitals said, “In our country, about 15 lakh prostate cancer cases are detected every year and about 85 per cent cases are found to be in fourth stage, where the guarantee of life generally does not extend beyond three years.”
