Charminar: Sculptors and experts from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) are working at a brisk pace to restore the glory of the city’s heritage structure, Charminar in the Old City. However, even as the date for Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) draws near, it remains doubtful whether the works will be completed in time.

The ASI has been working on restoring the structure’s former glory for quite some time now. In this regard, two of the four minarets have successfully been mended. However, the lower portions of the minarets are being given a “finishing touch” by the experts and workers were seen painting the same in the past few days. According to earlier reports, the ASI, who undertook the works in 2016, had said that the restoration would be completed by 2018.

The department is using lime, plaster, sand, jaggery, gallnut, eggs, and marble powder to repair the damage. Charminar has been showing signs of wear and tear due to ageing for over a decade now. It remains to be seen whether the coming of one of the world’s biggest leaders, the US President Donald Trump, to the city will bring any change to the heritage monument.
