Domalguda: With the winter holidays in full swing for most children, young ones are thronging parks and other recreational centres in the city for some much-needed fun-filled time. However, one of the oldest centre in the city, Indira park at Domalguda, which has always been a hub of greenspace and interesting rides in the heart of the city, has its kids’ zone lying in ruins due to lack of maintenance.

Officials from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have turned a blind eye and the kids’ play area has turned from bad to worst with majority of the play equipments damaged including the toy train. Apart from play area, the support rods for the lake in Indira park are also broken.

While it was observed that a notice board mentioned that children below 12 years are not allowed in the play area and if found, Rs 100 would be charged as fine, however, the young children and even tiny tots were seen using the play equipment.

Lamenting over the ill-maintenance, a resident of Domalguda, Pavan Kumar said, “I come to the park regularly with my children but the play equipment here is dysfunctional for a long time now and the authorities did not get it repaired.”

A walker at Indira Park, Sunita informed that most of the games including swing, slide, toy train and other equipment is damaged. She said that the games are for children but are been used by the people above 12 years.

She added that the broken support rods near the lake pose a threat to children and adults alike as anyone may fall into the lake.Meanwhile, repeated attempts to contact Indira Park in-charge went in vain.
