Students learn about wildlife conservation

Hyderabad: About 48 B Sc Forestry final year students along with Principal Scientist, Dr Vishal S Rana from Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Himachal Pradesh visited Nehru Zoological Park here recently.

Shivani Dogra, Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, addressed the students and spoke about the role of zoological park in conservation of wildlife, particularly endangered species. The students were explained about the significant development that took place in the zoo and the role played by them in conservation breeding, animal health care, wildlife education and extension.

Later, Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Nehru Zoological Park, interacted with the students and briefed them about wildlife management and other aspects of the zoo. He said that Nehru Zoological Park has two conservation centres that included Mouse Deer and White Backed Vultures.

The students were later taken on a tour to the zoo by the Education Officer, in order to look at the design of enclosures, night houses, and the planning of display enclosures for various groups of animals. The students visited veterinary hospital where Dr M A Hakeem, Assistant Director Vet, presented a demo on tranquilising and capturing of wild animals and man animal conflict.
