Kondapur: In a special drive against minors driving motor vehicles in public places, the Hyderabad City Traffic Police booked cases involving the underaged drivers and their parents.

Minor driving menace initiative which was started in last week by Hyderabad Traffic police, many minors who were driving motor cycles were caught by police and for the first time ten parents of the minors, who were caught, was imprisoned by the court and sent to jail.

Ravinder, Joint Commissioner, Traffic, Hyderabad Speaking to The Hans India said, “In span of last two months about four to five children died by driving the vehicles, so at that time we launched a drive to curb minor driving and people without license”.

He said that in last ten days about 300 to 400 minors drivers were caught by traffic police and filing charge sheets not only against minor drivers but also on parents or vehicle owners who were providing them vehicles, which is also offence under Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.

The Magistrates pronounced imprisonment to parents and owners, recently and 10 parents were sent to jail and one minor driver was sent to observation home and in last month also there were conviction on parents and owners and this initiative will continue till no minor drives the vehicle, he added.

“It's a good initiative taken by the Traffic police and by the Act many parents are scared of giving the vehicle to their children, who are minor and who doesn't carry driving license.

There is a need to provide more slots for the driving license application, because more than 50 per cent of the citizen don't have driving license. when people go to RTA office mediators (brokers) are making the money showing them easy way to get license”, Rajeshwari, a resident of Kondapur, said.

"The time has come to sensitize each and every parent as stake holders to take responsibility and government must keep continuing efforts through various awareness programmes ", Vinay palled said.
