Moula Ali: Well begun is half done, so goes the saying, the driveway that has shortened the distance to the 450-year-old shrine is reaping accolades from one and all. Buoyed by the rich dividends that the work is receiving, the State government has now sanctioned Rs 25 crore to further develop the driveway right up to the shrine.

In the first phase, a driveway was constructed that helped people cut short by climbing 300 steps (though not officially opened, people have started using the driveway) now the government plans to extend the driveway right up to the shrine. In the past, people had to climb 507 steps to reach the shrine.

According to sources the State government has also decided to develop a parking lot at the top of Moula Ali hill which can accommodate up to 150 vehicles for the convenience of the visitors.

In the erstwhile AP government, the then Greater Hyderabad Municipality Corporation (GHMC) H W Mayor Majid Hussain had begun the construction of a half km long driveway on Moula Ali hills in 2014.

Welcoming the Chief Minister's decision as a strong gesture towards preserving and showcasing Telangana's rich cultural heritage, Meer Ashraf Ali Razvi (Syeed), Superintendent of the Dargah urged the government to also focus on securing the driveway from unwanted and unreligious activities. " The current driveway worth 2.5 crores needs to finish at the earliest for the convenience of the pilgrims.

Though the path is already laid out, there is an immediate need to provide electricity across the route as already people have begun to use it and it becomes extremely difficult for them to drive up and down the hills especially during the nights.

In the meanwhile, the dargah caretakers want the GHMC to speed up drainage works at the foot of the hill ahead of the eight-day jatara that is organised during the Urs.
MD Ayub Ali Khan, Ex-councillor of Moula Ali said that shrine is currently being looked after by the Wakf Board and Mutab Ali Zaheer Khan, whose ancestors have owned the lands for several generations.
