Throwing caution to the winds, youth in the Old City of late have been consuming alcohol in broad daylight on pavements. Rahmatullah, a social activist said, “Youngsters below 18 years of age too are seen buying alcohol from wine shops and several beggars who are just 10-12 years of age too buy cheap liquor but wine shop owners do not seem to bother and provide them.”

Rahmatullah, a social activist said, “Youngsters below 18 years of age too are seen buying alcohol from wine shops and several beggars who are just 10-12 years of age too buy cheap liquor but wine shop owners do not seem to bother and provide them.”

In several areas in the Old City right from Nampally till Chandrayangutta, Santosh Nagar onwards till the highway, one can find youngsters blatantly consuming alcohol.
In spite of several warnings from police personnel, surprise checking and even imprisonment, the youth return to their old ways said a police officer.

He however added, “We are also going to intensify the drive and root out the problem.”In many areas, there are several schools and women feel uncomfortable moving on the roads as these youngsters are in a drunken state.
