Film Nagar: Construction debris laid along Road No 82 in Banjara Hills for a period of time, is now being removed by the efforts of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The work started on Friday when a truck and earth mover was assigned to remove the debris along the road. Road number 82 from Shaikpet begins with a wide road which narrows down as it approaches the elevated contours of Jubilee Hills. In other words, the road is much elevated and narrow between Hakimpet Kunta and Giani Zail Singh Nagar. Moreover, the bottleneck junction of the road on the either side is lined with immense construction debris creating inconvenience to the commuters.

A resident of Film Nagar Sanjeev said “The road encroachment started a few months ago when many old buildings were demolished in the areas of Tolichowki, Hakimpet, and Film Nagar started dumping debris along the road. Pedestrians cannot even walk on the road because the road is so narrow that vehicles occupy most of the space.” Another resident Shiva from Ambedkar Nagar Colony said, “There are no streetlights or dividers on this elevated road which is leading to many accidents during nights. The road is narrow, and it turns very busy during the peak hours.

Many loaded vehicles struck between the road posing danger to the moving traffic. Unfortunately, many open areas in the city are affected by construction debris. The sites which are usually targeted are secluded lakes and open space near roadside, government must install CCTV cameras to monitor such sites to prevent further damage.” A GHMC worker on the condition of anonymity said, “The work can take from days to weeks to clear up the entire debris, because it is all scattered along the length of the road.”
