The Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu, popularly known as Ramachandrapuram Lake in Hyderabad has been emanating foul smell because of pollution and wild growth of weeds and hyacinth.

Ramachandrapuram: The Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu, popularly known as Ramachandrapuram Lake in Hyderabad has been emanating foul smell because of pollution and wild growth of weeds and hyacinth.

Water in the lake is completely polluted and became a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Especially, during the monsoon season the Lake, which witnessed severe flooding during heavy rains, as many as 109 buildings, including 16 residential apartments and another 93 independent houses, have come up in the Full Tank Level (FTL) of Pedda Cheruvu in the past two decades.

There was a wild growth of plants and hyacinth in the lake depleting the oxygen levels and killing the fish life in the water body. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is responsible for paying no attention to its development.

P Navatha Reddy Corporator of Chandanagar said, “The Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu is a popular lake and it is seen that for more than five months the lake is been neglected and no officials have taken action on it, now the lake is filled with weeds and hyacinth giving foul smell to all the people around but now the lake has been inspected by me along with cleaning department and we promise that soon lake will be in a good condition.”
