Charminar: Several people from Old City were cheated by a travel agency claiming them to send on holy journey of Haj and Umra. Allegedly travel agency KSS collected money from several Haj aspirants but failed to send them on the pilgrimage.

According to police, accused Altaf Hussain hailing from Kadapa of Andhra Pradesh started a branch office in Dabeerpura few months ago and claimed to send pilgrims at relatively low prices. Police said that Altaf collected Rs 18,000 to Rs 35000 from each pilgrim, however, without fulfilling the contract he fled from the city. Duped pilgrims approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Police said that the modus operandi of the accused was to attract the gullible aspirants by offering cheapest prices for Haj and Umra pilgrimage on group registrations. Currently, the charges for Umra range between Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000. Police has booked a cheating and fraud case against the travel agency KSS. A team of police has been sent to AP to apprehend Altaf, police said.

The fraud came to light when people did not receive call from the KSS agency even after the date for travel and other formalities for Umra was due. Finally, a complaint was lodged at Dabeerpura police station. DCP south zone V Satyanarayana said that fraudsters would be apprehended soon.
