Rajendra Nagar: Five persons, including the kingpin, were arrested and 60 litres of spurious liquor was seized from a belt shop in Satamrai village in Shamshabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district, the Shamshabad zone excise DCP Qureshi said here on Friday.

The excise police arrested Veerababu of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh who is running a belt shop in the village. In connivance with three local distillery unit employees, Veerabad using the alcohol smuggled out from the unit prepared his own brand of liquor. He purchased used liquor bottles and filled his liquor in them and put the seal and sold them as if they are new.

Bagga Distillery supervisor Vinod Krishna and two others were arrested for helping Veerababu in brewing the liquor. In fact, movement of goods from the distillery is high regulated. Without the permission of the excise personnel in the unit premises, no single bottle could be brought outside the unit. But, for the last six months alcohol from the unit was smuggled out. Qureshi said that a notice would be served on the distillery unit on the issue.
