Musheerabad: With the term of the sarpanches ending on July 31 there would be serious problems in villages if the government entrusts special officers with the task of administering the gram panchayats, feared Telangana Sarpanches’ Association president Bhumanna Yadav and BC Welfare Association president Jajula Srinivas Goud.

Addressing a state-level convention in Sundarayya Vignana Kendam attended by 6,000 sarpanches, the two leaders recalled that the terms of sarpanches were extended by the government in 1981 by two years and one year each in 1987 and 2000. They stated that the cooperative bank chairman was also given an extension of six months, while recalling that representations have been submitted by the sarpanches’ association to several ministers to extend their term.

Yadav and Goud asserted that there was a need for giving extension to the sarpanches if welfare schemes were to reach the needy people. They pointed out, the administration could be paralysed if a special officer was appointed for ten villages. They stated that there won’t be any loss to the government if the sarpanches were given extension. The convention resolved to submit memorandum on the demand to all district collectors on July 25 and to MLAs and ministers the next day. It decided to conduct poojas in temples across the State for achieving ‘Bangaru Telangana’ and ensure continuance of K Chandrasekhar Rao as the Chief Minister. Among the association leaders present were general secretary Challarapu Venkat Goud, vice-president Bathula Varalakshmi, secretary Sudhakar Yadav, Vukati Yakub Reddy.
