100 kg of ammonium nitrate, 315 detonators and 440 gelatin sticks seized cont2Hyderabad: South zone Task Force team during its vehicle checking drive arrested a contractor for possessing explosives. The police said that the alleged contractor named P Jangaiah, 35, residing in Champapet was in possession of 100 kg of ammonium nitrate, six bundles of 315 detonators and two cartons of 440 gelatin sticks. A press release said that the Task Force team stepped up vigil to check the illegal sale of explosives in the Kanchanbagh area. Jangaiah was nabbed near a petrol pump at Champapet when he was found moving under suspicious circumstances. During interrogation, he confessed running a compressor tractor on rent for eight years and gained experience in rock-cutting and blasting. Since two years, Jangaiah had started taking contracts and in the last six months he secured gelatin sticks and detonators in huge quantities from a person named Krishna Reddy and used them at work sites. He also supplied explosives to customers illegally at higher prices to earn easy money. The police are trying to ascertain the names of people who had transactions with him and might have used the explosives for any anti-national activities. Violation of the Explosives Substances Act is punishable with imprisonment up to 10 years The police have appealed to the people to provide information on any illegal storage and transportation of explosives which may be hazardous for public lives and property.
