Hyderabad: The name Dwana Sastry itself evokes fun and frolic, Jnanapith awardee and noted writer Dr C Narayana Reddy said here on Saturday while felicitating popular writer Dwana Sastry on his 66th birthday after releasing his book 'Telugu Sahityamlo Hasyamrutam' (The nectar of comedy in the Telugu literature).CelabrateAddressing the meeting organized by the Kinnera Arts Theatre at Sri Tyagaraya Gana Sabha, Dr Narayana Reddy said that Dwana Sastry has been popular in authoring a wide variety of books. He complimented Dwana Sastry for authoring on the rare subject like the nectar of comedy in Telugu literature. Indian cultural ambassador in Canada Dr Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, senior actor Ravi Kondala Rao, Dr Rallabandi Kavita Prasad, director, Department of Culture, G Valliswar, Editor, Andhra Pradesh magazine, A N Jagannadha Sarma, editor, Navya weekly, actor Subbaraya Sarma, Dr Voleti Parvatisam, Maddali Raghuram, secretary, Kinnera Arts were present. Earlier, three comedy plays which secured first three prizes were given cash awards. 'Jai Lakappaya Namah' got the first prize and a cash award of Rs. 5,000 while Taruni Tandavam secured second prize with Rs. 3,000 and Dharmo Rakshati and Brahmachari Alludu special prizes with Rs. 1,000 each. Noted comedy writers Nanduri Partha Sarathi, cartoonist Bali, Hasyavadhani Sankaranarayana, and Potturi Vijayalakshmi were presented with Rs. 1,116 in cash with a memento. Jai Lakappaya Namah, the first prize winner play was enacted giving a grand finishing touch to the function.
