Following heavy rain during the last two-three days heavy inflows reached the rivers Krishna, Kundu and Penna. The flood level in the Krishna at the Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada rose sharply. As a result of the floods, there was a steep rise in the water level in the Nagarjunasagar reservoir, in Nalgonda district. The Irrigation department officials released water downstream after lifting six crest gates to five feet. While the inflow was 72,000 cusecs, the outflow was 92,000 cusecs.

Floods inundate several villages in Kurnool, Kadapa districts

Hyderabad: Following heavy rain during the last two-three days heavy inflows reached the rivers Krishna, Kundu and Penna. The flood level in the Krishna at the Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada rose sharply. As a result of the floods, there was a steep rise in the water level in the Nagarjunasagar reservoir, in Nalgonda district. The Irrigation department officials released water downstream after lifting six crest gates to five feet. While the inflow was 72,000 cusecs, the outflow was 92,000 cusecs.

The flood fury in the Kundu and Penna rivers in Kurnool and Kadapa districts also turned serious. The Kundu flood water was overflowing several low-level bridges touching Nemmaladinne in Peddamodiyam mandal, Vellalla in Rajupalem mandal and Sitarampuram in Chapadu mandal, severely affecting transport facilities. After the Godavari level at Dowleswaram touched 11.40 feet, 9.7 lakh cusecs were let out into the sea. Vehicular traffic to 19 girijan villages was affected after a causeway near Kothur was submerged.

The Godavari flood level is rising at Devipatnam in East Godavari district. Water entered A Veeravaram, Toyyur, Devipatnam, Dandangi villages in the agency area. Meanwhile, as heavy rain lashed West Godavari district, Gundera bridge, in Lingapalem mandal, shrank, forcing officials to stop two-way transportation.
