Increase In Hyderabad\'s Twin Reservoirs\' Water Levels, Will Last Until December. Heavy showers across Hyderabad on Thursday and Friday improved the water levels of the twin reservoirs, Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, significantly.

Heavy showers across Hyderabad on Thursday and Friday improved the water levels of the twin reservoirs, Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, significantly.

The fresh inflows of water were brought in from upstream areas, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage (HMWS&SB) said, adding that it could last for about a month. Based on the current water levels of the reservoirs, the HMWS&WB officials said they hope to supply water to the city up to December without any trouble. 11.7% of the water being supplied to the city per day comes from these reservoirs.

On the subject of water levels in other drinking water sources, HMWS&SB said that the water levels are satisfactory due to the unprecedented rainfall from last August.

The Water Board issued a statement on Saturday, saying that the recorded water level in Osman Nagar was 1773.85 feet (full tank level 1,790 feet). This should last the city 226 days. Regarding Himayatsagar, the recorded water level on Saturday was 1,747.95 feet (FTL, 1763.50 feet). This should last the city 210 days.

Managing director of HMWS&WB said, "Though the assured quantity of water to the city and its peripheral areas is 340 MGD, in view of encouraging water levels at Akkampally barrage, we have increased supplies up to 10 MGD to the city from February. With this, the quantity of water supplied to the city has gone up to 350 MGD. We hope to continue the supplies till the monsoon sets in.”

"Thanks to the rainfall reported last year, groundwater levels have increased significantly in the city. As a result, we have not faced shortage of drinking water anywhere in the city this summer," he added.

Consequently, the water supplied to the Old City have been increased.

Meanwhile, HMWS&SB are planning to launch the Krishna drinking water supply project phase-III by July or August.
