A whopping 1.5 lakh applications from Ranga Reddy district and 63,707 applications from Hyderabad district were received for the land regularisation scheme. The town planning wing of the GHMC would verify the applications and for the purpose, 69 teams for Ranga Reddy and 42 teams for Hyderabad district would be engaged.

The officials would identify government lands, parks, nalas, public utilisation places, graveyards among other properties in clearing the land regularisation applications for the identification of eligible allottees of housing scheme. Somesh Kumar, Commissioner & Special Officer, GHMC, asked the collectors of Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad district to speed up the work in identifying eligible members for allotment of remaining 19,400 houses and also expedite the process of land acquisition for Metro Rail project.

Gourav Uppal, additional commissioner, GHMC, Devender Reddy, chief city planner and other senior officials took part in the review meeting. Regularisation in slums There are 1,468 slums in the GHMC limits with a total population of 17.61 lakh. There are 48 slums in government lands and in 39 slums the average extent of land in possession by the slum dwellers is less than 60 square yards. The government is planning to redevelop slums while issuing pattas of 125 square yards to slum dwellers.
