Hyderabad: Minister for Environment and Forests, Jogu Ramanna stressed on the need for transforming the wet waste into compost towards helping farmers in irrigation. The Minister was speaking at held at the Environment Day celebrations organised by the Telangana National Green Corps in association with the Council for Green Revolution here Thursday.

Hyderabad: Waste Management Need of the Hour

He said that cities had the responsibility to release only the treated sewage, which could become an irrigation input to farmers. This, he said, was the only way the cycle of environment could be kept intact. According to the Minister, more than 7,000 tonnes of wet waste along with 400 crores litres of waste water that is being generated urban areas in Telangana State can become an input to farmers. Treatment of water and management of waste is the need of the hour. “The Telangana government will take special interest in promoting social forestry in urban and rural areas in order to increase the green cover to 33 per cent as per national policy from the present 20 per cent coverage, he explained.US Consul General Michael Mulins was present.
