A 5K and 10K race will be organised by The Deccan Marathon team for the first time in Secunderabad cantonment area on March 1. The marathon would be flagged off by Maj Gen RK Jagga, VSM, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division, near the graveyard at Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya, Sainikpuri.

The tentative route for the run would be EME centre-Eagle Chowk- RSI road-Sun Dial- Navy House- Golf Course Junction – Bison Road--GoC House—Bison Statue—Battalion Mess- Kowkur Road-- MES Pump (5km) and back to finishing point. People above the age of seven are eligible for the 5K run and people above the age of 15 are eligible to participate in the 10K run. The participants will get a free t-shirt and cap and every participant who completes the run will get a medal.
Water and energy drinks will be served at every kilometer and a mini breakfast would be provided at the end of the event. The participants should report to the venue at 5 am. The 10K run is expected to start at 5:45 am and the 5K run is expected to start at 6 am. The registrations for the run will close on February 24. The registration is free.
Dr S Bakhtiar Choudhary, a retired major from the Army and the president of Telangana Runners plan to host such events in the coming years as well. “We are hosting this run to motivate people to come out of their houses, take a break from their desk jobs and catch a breath of fresh air. The motto behind this run is ‘Fitness for a Friendly Neighbourhood’,” said Dr Choudhary.
