McDonald's seeks to gain buzz communication by teasing Burger King fast food chain in France. To do so, it took a twenty meters high billboard fixed by a country road.

McDonalds erected a gigantic panel on a road leading to Brioude, a town of 6 700 people to indicate the closest Burger King drive-in service and all the steps required to get there.

This initiative may not look so hostile after all if only the service at issue was not 258 km away. Right by BK panel's side, a far more ordinary panel, indicating a McDonald's in-drive service only 5 km away from there, straight ahead.

"We decided to give McDonald's a wink as they tease us on social networks on a regular basis. They can't afford such communication campaigns like McDonald's so they're having fun on the web. However, McDonald's and its franchises began to get mad", said TBWA--PARIS Commercial director Matthéo Pressmar.

McDonald's seeks to tease fierce competitor BK in France where the latest shows excellent results since the company brought back its restaurants there. Yet doing so too can create a backlash. But Matthéo Pressmar expects such a move :"They may thank us for free advertisement" or perhaps they will launch 'Go the distance and we'll get you a free Whopper' operation.

Lately Burger King has started on a campaign to dethrone McDonald’s as market leader in French fast food with a deal to buy Quick, the Belgian hamburger chain that is ubiquitous throughout France.
